Hot Takes NCAA Football

The five best college football bets for week 1

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. This Saturday is one of the most special days of the year. College football is FINALLY back.  If you’re anything like me you’ll turn your TV on at about 11:00 am on Saturday and keep watching college football until about 1:00 am. It’s absolutely mesmerizing.

With college football season coming back it’s also college football betting season. College football is probably my favorite sport to bet. So with that being said, here are my top bets for this weekend’s games. Keep in mind that lines are subject to change. Also keep in mind that if all/most of these hit then I want all of the credit but if none/only 1 or 2 of these hit then I want none of the blame.

1. Alabama vs. Louisville (Neutral site: Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida) – UNDER 62.5

This line has been increasing all week but there’s no way this game has 62.5 points in it. Louisville is gonna suck without Lamar Jackson and they’re playing an opponent in Alabama who won’t allow them time to adjust.

There will be growing pains for new Louisville QB Jawon Pass and they’re going to get absolutely annihilated.

Score prediction: Alabama 45, Louisville 14

2. Texas vs Maryland (Neutral site: FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland)- Texas -14

So I’m sure that many of you remember Maryland beating Texas like a drum in Austin last season. It wasn’t pretty and it quieted the “Texas is back” crowd really fast.

HOWEVER (Stephen A. Smith voice), the second year under Head Coach Tom Herman will prove more fruitful for Texas. I’m not saying that they’ll be in heavy playoff contention but I am saying that they’re going to beat a lousy Maryland team by at least two touchdowns.

Score prediction: Texas 38, Maryland 20

3. Miami vs LSU (Neutral site: AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas)- UNDER 46.5

Yes, this is my second under pick in the bunch and I absolutely despise betting the under. However, this one is an absolute no brainer.

After losing Derrius Guice LSU won’t be able to run the ball as effectively. I can’t remember the last time they had a quarterback who wasn’t trash. Miami’s defense is going to be amazing. LSU’s defense is also amazing. Easiest pick of the week.

In summary: Two of the best defenses in the country are going at each other. If this total was at 40 points I’d still be slamming the under.

Score prediction: Miami 24, LSU 13

4 & 5: West Virginia vs. Tennessee- OVER 61.5 & WVU -10.5

Tennessee is an absolute shit show. Their defense last season was atrocious and it didn’t get much better.

West Virginia may have the best quarterback in the country in Will Grier. David Stills is an absolute monster. They’re going to burn Tennessee’s garbage secondary like toast this weekend and it’s going to be incredibly fun to watch.

Score prediction: West Virginia 48, Tennessee 20

BONUS TEASER (6-point teaser +150): Syracuse +.5, Texas -7, and UCF -18.5

Every week I’m going to try and throw a bonus teaser in there for you all to use. I like to do 6 point teasers because you can get an extremely good return on them. This one should be relatively safe.

UCF plays UCONN which is a basketball school. They beat them by 25 points at home last season. UCONN isn’t good. I’d expect a similar result.

I also think Syracuse should get the job done against one of their old assistant coaches and now current Western Michigan head coach Tim Lester. All they’ve gotta do is win the game by 1 point in this teaser which they should do.
