So we decided to make a Fire Gettleman shirt last night because some people on our page asked for it during one of our live shows. While a lot of people appreciate it and think that it’s a valid cause and a great shirt, the typical John Mara/Dave Gettleman Kool-Aid drinkers on our page are flipping out and saying that we’re fake Giants fans and blah blah blah blah blah.

I’ve never understood the notion that if you disagree with what your team does then you’re a fake fan. How could fans of a team that is in the same market as the Knicks, Mets, and Jets say that it’s a good idea to blindly trust your team’s ownership and management? How has that worked out for those franchises? If the past seven years are any indication, we have basically become them.

It’s probably because the Giants have created this false sense of moral high ground and they pretend to be better than everyone else even though they’re not. The same franchise that wouldn’t hire Vince Lombardi because he was Italian and covered up the domestic abuse of a kicker has somehow successfully pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes and made them think that they’re the most morally correct franchise to ever walk this earth.

I could go on for years about this but I’m not here to talk about that, I’m here to talk about Dave Gettleman.

When it comes down to it, a man by the name of Dave Gettleman once said that “you don’t quit on talent.” Well his piss-poor track record says otherwise. As General Manager of the Panthers he quit on the best player in franchise history in Steve Smith. He pulled the franchise tag out from under Josh Norman and he let him walk for absolutely nothing instead of trying to trade him for an asset that he most certainly would have gotten at that time. He tried to do the same thing to veteran linebacker Thomas Davis and tight end Greg Olson and the Panthers owner said “enough is enough” and fired him because the ownership knew that if he was left to his own devices that it’d only be a matter of time before he pissed off a guy like Cam Newton or Luke Kuechly. Mismanaging talent ultimately cost him his job in Carolina.

Well things haven’t been much different here in New York. Since taking over at the end of the 2017 season, Gettleman has gotten rid of Odell Beckham Jr. (for what turned out to be a 2 down NT, Jabrill Peppers, and a project DE), Landon Collins (for nothing instead of trading him at the trade deadline for at minimum a third round pick), Damon Harrison (for a 5th round pick before drafting his replacement with a first round pick), Justin Pugh (for nothing), and Olivier Vernon (which was the only guy we got a decent return for). It’s basically Carolina 2.0 but the difference is that John Mara is just letting him destroy the team piece by piece instead of growing a pair and doing something about it.

We knew that this was a risk when the Giants hired him. We knew he was an egotistical asshole who while being a great drafter is also notorious for not knowing how to manage the talent on his own roster. It’s pointless to draft good players if you’re not going to keep the good players that you already have.

As Giants fans, we should also be blaming John Mara for hiring a General Manager who told him everything that he wanted to hear in regards to keeping Eli Manning. This team could have hired Louis Riddick or John Dorsey but Mara knew that they would have wanted to replace Eli and he didn’t want to hire someone who wanted to do that.

When it’s all said and done, I love the Giants. I want the Giants to win the Super Bowl every single year until the day that I die. Ultimately that won’t happen. No team wins every year. It just makes it a lot more difficult to win if you let your franchise pillars walk and you don’t get even close to a good return for them. And for that reason, he should be fired before he does even more damage to this team. So go onto our facebook page (New York Giants 366) or click the picture on top of this article and buy a shirt.

P.S. I didn’t say one mean thing about Daniel Jones in this article because I’m trying to be nice to him. I want that on the record.
